In modern day Chinese, most charactersare made up by combining a sound part with a meaning part. Some Chinese words are a combination of two or more characters.
Many of the characters that have been found on oracle bones and bronze ritual vessels are still used today in a slightly altered state. Some of these characters can be called pictograms.
These characters began as pictures of the objects they represent. With time, the characters have been simplified. In some cases they are no longer easily recognisable as the object.
In this challenge you are given a number of these pictographic characters.
Can you match the picture with the correct ancient Chinese character?
