Chinese sentence – Mandarin phrases – How to say ” Swim practice is canceled today due to bad road condition” in Chinese: You2 yu2 lu4 kuang4 bu4 liang2, jin1 tian1 you2 yong3 lian4 xi2 bei4 qu3 xiao1 le5. You2 yu2 (由於 because of, conjuction) lu4 (路noun, road) kuang4 (况 noun, condition) bu4 (不 negative prefix, not) liang2 (良 adjective, good), jin1 tian1 (今天 noun, today) you2 yong3 (游泳 noun but serves as adjective, swimming)lian4 xi2 (练习 noun, practice) bei4 (被 a passive voice indicator) qu3 xiao1 (取消 verb, cancel) le5 (了 a sentence-final particle to show the completion of action).
Bei4 被, a passive voice indicator, is often found in bei4(被)verb le5(了) syntax for passive voice. Le5 (了), the particle, functions as “ed” ending in English to indicate the completion of the action. However, le5 can be omitted, for example, 你被他骗,你还对他那么好。(ni3 bei4 ta1 pian4, ni3 hai2 dui4 ta1 na4 me5 hao3 — you were cheated by him, you still treat him that nicely).
